Project Details

Overview

The project consisted of an extensive redevelopment of a significant stretch of both Upper and Lower Wacker Drive, spanning from Van Buren Street to Monroe Street. Situated amidst some of the most iconic skyscrapers in Chicago, including the towering Willis Tower, this initiative represented a key undertaking by the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT). Not only did it encompass a major arterial route within the city, but its location, amidst a cluster of towering structures, added to its complexity and high-profile nature.

The project’s scope included the demolition, reconstruction, and modernization of both levels of Wacker Drive, incorporating advanced infrastructure design to enhance traffic flow, pedestrian safety, and overall aesthetics of the area. Additionally, the project aimed to improve accessibility and connectivity, integrating state-of-the-art urban planning principles to revitalize this crucial segment of Chicago’s urban fabric.
